How Hong Kong payouts work
Every hand starts from its base point (基本點). Under 半辣上 (half-spicy), the standard in Hong Kong today, it doubles each faan up to 4 faan (1, 2, 4, 8, 16) and then only every two faan (24, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128). Under 辣辣上 (full-spicy) it keeps doubling every faan, so big hands cost far more.
A discard win (出銃) is worth 4 base points. Under 全銃 (full-gun), the common rule with a 3-faan minimum, the discarder pays all 4. Under 半銃 (half-gun) the discarder pays 2 and the other two players 1 each — the winner collects the same either way.
A self-draw (自摸) is worth 6 base points: each of the other three pays 2. Together with the extra faan for self-drawing, the same hand self-drawn pays three times as much as on a discard.
The dealer (莊家) pays and collects the same as everyone else — Hong Kong Mahjong has no dealer multiplier. Totals above the table limit pay the limit (爆棚).
